ARCHITECTURE + MATERIAL & ENVELOPE
xmade is an architectural firm based in Basel and Barcelona with international collaborators, focused on the research, design and materialization of contemporary buildings. Our main focus is centered on the development of design solutions based on the exploration of emerging materials and the processes involving their production. We undertake this approach working in two main areas of development: architecture & building envelope and material prototypes.
xmade’s design process is shaped by the development and application of specific tools and methods. The aim is to control and manipulate the properties and capacities of the building materials and to intervene in their production and desing processes to improve both aesthetics and performance. This leads to buildings provided with an innovative and contemporary character that, at the same time, are energy efficient and responsive to the environment. Important to this process is the accurate study of the building’s context and its technical and economical constraints, which is the base for precise detailing.
