Seoul, 11.2021
Juanjo Castellón (co-founder, xmade GmbH) and his research team at Rice School of Architecture were awarded with the Crossroads X Prize for their F.E.W. (Food, Energy, and Water) rooftop prototype in the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism , SBAU 2021. The entry was one of 14 honored from among the 190 artists, 40 universities, and 17 cities that participated. The prototype is one of only eight Global Studio structures selected to be built on-site at the Biennale.

The modular pavilion, whose ceramic pieces were developed in collaboration with Ceramica Cumella and xmade is meant to both serve as a collective rooftop infrastructure, and as a platform to recycle water based on the technology being developed at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rice University.
