The proposal for the new Building 140 at CERN’s campus, by White Arkitekter and Burckhardt Architecture, has won third prize in an open competition, where xmade has collaborated in the design of the building’s envelope.
The project features a timber structure that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, incorporating new public green spaces to enhance biodiversity and manage rainwater efficiently. The facade design focuses on sustainability and performance, ensuring a low carbon footprint throughout the building’s lifecycle.
By using nature-based solutions and advanced facade technology, the proposal aims to create a regenerative and healthy work environment, setting a new standard for sustainable architecture within the CERN campus.
