ARCHITECTURE + MATERIAL & ENVELOPE

2nd prize, ICC Cointrin, Genève

Geneva, 2026
The proposal of gdap architectes in the competition for the renovation of the International Convention Center (ICC) building next to the Cointrin airport in Geneva, where xmade participated as a specialist team for the renovation of the facade, has received the second prize.

The project envisaged a total renovation of the existing facade, which if it was formally iconic, had become obsolete in terms of thermal and acoustics performance, and also had a very complicated and expensive maintenance.

A new hybrid facade (wood and aluminum) to reduce the carbon footprint as much as possible, with easy maintenance (external linear walkway on each level) and with a modular system for quick assembly, together with the reuse and recycling of the materials of the original facade (aluminum and glass), built the main arguments of the renovation works.
