The entry by Burckhardt Architecture SA “Le théorème de Margueritte” has won the first prize in the two-stage open competition for the Céntre des Sciences Physiques et Matématiques (CSPM) at the University of Geneva, with xmade as façade planner in the team.
The scheme combines a permeable plinth, integrating the new center into the urban context, with two emerging bodies, a first volume devoted to education and a high-rise dedicated to research. xmade contributed to the design of the building envelope, a light façade (in terms of physical weight and carbon footprint) integrating the production of energy with a very straight-forward light construction of exterior walkways. The envelope integrates challenging concepts such as energy efficiency, acoustics, sun protection and natural lighting, in front of rigorous laboratory standards, always within a coherent architectural concept.
