El nou Node Nàutic, ubicat al port de la Barceloneta, albergarà la Facultat de Nàutica de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya i un viver d'emprenedoria de les indústries navals. Aquest programa requereix diverses característiques úniques, inclòs un grup de recerca i un túnel de vent. Per acomodar aquests grans elements, l'estructura permet espais lliures amplis a la planta baixa. Això s'aconsegueix amb un sistema estructural de formigó a tot el perímetre de l'edifici, amb una estructura secondària metàl·lica suspesa d'aquest marc exterior.
L’envolupant també penja d’aquest sistema estructural i disposa de les toleràncies necessàries per moure's amb independència de l’estructura metàl.lica principal. A les cares longitudinals de l’edifici, la façana consisteix en un envidrament de terre a sostre darrere d'un brise soleil ceràmic. La profunditat i la densitat dels buïts del brise soleil tamisen la radiació directa, moderen la llum natural i enfatitzen les vistes segons el programa de cada espai i lacseva orientació exacta. Per altra banda, la façana frontal, orientada a Sud, no disposa de gelosia ceràmica ja que la successió dels plans de façana es retranquegen de dalt a baix per provocar ombra els uns sobre els altres. La façana posterior, orientada plenament a Nord, queda sense protecció solar exterior, potenciant la seva transparència.

The new Node Nàutic, located in the Barceloneta harbour, will house the Faculty of Nautical Studies for The Technical University of Catalonia as well as an incubator for entrepreneurship in naval industries. This program requires several unique features, including a research pool and a wind tunnel. To accommodate these large elements, the structure had to allow for expansive clear spaces on the ground floor. This is accomplished thanks to a concrete structural framing around the perimeter of the building, with a secondary steel structure suspended from this outer frame.
The envelope also hangs from this structural system and has the necessary tolerances to move independently from the main metal structure. On the longitudinal sides of the building, the facade consists of floor-to-ceiling glazing behind a ceramic brise-soleil. The depth and density of the voids of the lattice-work screen the direct radiation, moderate the natural light and emphasize the views according to the program of each space and its exact orientation. On the other hand, the front facade, oriented to the South, does not have a ceramic lattice since the succession of façade planes is recessed from top to bottom to generate shadows over each other. The rear façade, fully oriented to the North, is left without external solar protection, enhancing its transparency.
